A bowtie in silk satinBlack tie events hold a special place in Malaysia's social calendar, blending timeless elegance with a touch of cultural fusion. From glamorous galas to prestigious ceremonies, the black tie dress code is an integral part of the country's high-society events. Attending a black tie event in Malaysia signifies adherence to a strict dress code, ensuring a refined and polished appearance.
We begin with the star of the show: the Tuxedo. The black or midnight blue fabric used is woven in a barathea weave which gives a slight textured sheen. Silk satin or grosgrain is used on the lapel, a feature unique to only the tuxedo. This is a nod to the significance of black tie, as silk is far too delicate to be used for day to day wear.
However, as it is a black tie ensemble, and not a black tie jacket, other things complete the look. The trousers are made with a silk braid running along the outseam, The crisp white shirt is made with a pleated or Marcella bib on the front, with French cuffs as a matter of course. The shoes are black and polished to a high shine or are made of patent leather.
A custom bowtie in the makingOf course, no outfit is complete without its accessories. It would be like having a glazed donut with no glaze- plain. A set of cufflinks and studs add visual interest to the shirt. A bow tie and cummerbund is made from the same material as the lapel of the tuxedo, ensuring a seamless and cohesive look. A simple white hand-rolled linen pocket square adorns the breast pocket of the tuxedo, standing out in a sea of black.
With all these rules, the only way to stand out in a sea of similarly dressed men, would be with a superior cut or fabric. At the Compendium, we have both. Our take on the tuxedo is true to form in all the traditional aspects, but we take a little bit of artistic liberty in the cut and the fit of the jacket with a softer jacket instead of the traditional suit of armor. Lapels are cut slightly wider, with a curved Barchetta breast pocket and Milanese buttonhole drawing the viewers eyes upwards.
When you commission a tuxedo with us, you can rest assured that despite of the dress code that insists that everyone dresses the same, you will still be the best dressed in the room.
